On 23 March 2020, in response to the growing threat of Covid-19, world leaders including UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told their countries that people must stay at home and avoid all unnecessary social contacts, including contact with family members, friends and romantic partners living elsewhere. As existential psychologists living in the UK, it is decided to engage in an online dialogue about the experiences of living in, and working therapeutically through, 'corona times'. This chapter explores and elaborates upon several of the key existential themes and concerns discussed in the two dialogues. The first dialogue took place a mere two weeks after UK lockdown had begun and was subsequently uploaded onto YouTube on 6 April 2020 where it can still be viewed. Just over a year later, following the realisation that many of the feelings and experiences had changed considerably, it is decided to engage in a second dialogue, which was primarily focused on the longer-term psychological and existential impact of this strange period in human history. Once again, the dialogue was uploaded onto YouTube on 30 April 2021. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

In a crisis such as COVID-19 that struck the world in 2019, social and community activities are restricted, including in-person classes. On the one hand, these restrictions are aimed as a precautionary measure against the virus spread;on the other hand, this could lead to a lost generation without an educational process. Notwithstanding this, online learning through a video-sharing platform is envisaged as the best way to keep learning in this particular situation. However, students have their learning style preferences. While a video-based sharing platform is seen as the most representative way of facilitating self-directed learning, understanding the motivations driving the adoption is crucial. This paper investigates technical, social, and personal environments that motivate generation Z to utilise this tool for self-directed learning, employing Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) as the theoretical lens. A total of 251 survey responses from this cohort were collected and analysed with a structural equation modelling approach. The findings reveal that perceived usefulness and content quality, peer influence, and self-efficacy and outcome from three perspectives, respectively, determine the adoption intention substantially by 67.1%. These findings provide several important implications for video-sharing platform acceptance in terms of both research and practice. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed. © 2024, Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education. All rights reserved.

This study draws on corpus methodology to investigate people's reactions to COVID-19 vaccination using the data of Macau netizens' comments on a YouTube channel. Four main topics under discussion were identified based on the word lists. Meanwhile, people were concerned about the activity of vaccines and were also engaged in heated debates on both domestic and foreign vaccines according to the collocation of "疫苗” yìmiáo (vaccine). The discussion topics and concerns varied along with time, evidenced by the results of word lists and collocates of each month. It is also noticeable that some misinformation on vaccines burgeoned and faded before and after the mass vaccination of Macau residents. The supportive voices for the (Chinese) vaccines were building up their momentum over time. This phenomenon lends support to the effective persuasion of gain-framed messages in advocating safe behaviour based on Prospect Theory. Our research has revealed that the corpus-based study of online comments can be leveraged to uncover people's social behaviour in the pandemic context. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

YouTube is a widely recognized video-sharing platform that students often use to search for videos that explain ideas and concepts related to their courses, seminars, or research. With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, education has undergone a dramatic shift toward virtual learning, leading to a surge in the number of YouTube viewers and video creators. This article discusses the launch of a Spanish-language YouTube channel focused on biochemistry and metabolism, which was found to be useful by the author's students enrolled in Nutritional Biochemistry course at Universidad Científica del Sur, Lima Perú. This innovation has also benefited students and teachers across Peru and other Spanish-speaking countries. Based on this experience, teachers and professionals should be encouraged to share their knowledge on this platform, making it a reliable source of information during challenging situations.

INTRODUCTION: During the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which has significantly impacted public health, it is crucial to raise awareness and access to accurate information about breastfeeding for healthy growth and development. This descriptive study aimed to evaluate the content, reliability, and quality of YouTube videos on COVID-19 and breastfeeding. METHODS: The YouTube platform was searched for the English keywords "COVID-19" and "breastfeeding" in March 2021. A total of 325 videos were reached. Two independent researchers analyzed the content of 43 videos that met the inclusion criteria. The content quality of the videos was evaluated using the COVID-19 and Breastfeeding Score, which was prepared by researchers in line with international guidelines, the reliability of the videos was analyzed using the DISCERN, and the content quality was evaluated using the Global Quality Score (GQS). RESULTS: The majority (72.1%) of the 43 videos included in the study were informative. In terms of the video origins, most had been uploaded in the U.S., and most had been created by news agencies or physicians. Using the DISCERN tool, 32.6% of videos scored 5 points, and 37.2% of videos scored five points using the GQS tool. Videos grouped as informative scored significantly higher than those grouped as misleading. The GQSs for the videos featuring parents were significantly lower than those for the videos featuring physicians or other healthcare professionals. DISCUSSION: During the COVID-19 pandemic, YouTube videos served as an essential and easily accessible source of information about breastfeeding for mothers concerned about various aspects of the disease. This study showed that videos on breastfeeding and COVID-19 have high view rates but low quality and low reliability.

What is currently known? The YouTube platform has been a significant source of misleading information during public health crises, including the H1N1, Ebola, and Zika outbreaks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many women used YouTube videos to search for information about breastfeeding. What does this article add? YouTube videos about breastfeeding and COVID-19 have high views. However, these also include videos that are low in quality and reliability. The information content of YouTube videos needs to be improved and standardized before the videos can be considered a reliable source of information about COVID-19 and its effects on breastfeeding.

Objectives: COVID-19 vaccination misinformation on YouTube can have negative effects on users. Some, after being exposed to such misinformation, may search online for information that either debunks or confirms it. This study's objective is to examine the impact of YouTube videos spreading misinformation about COVID-19 vaccination and the influencing variables, as well as subsequent information seeking and its effect on attitudes toward vaccination. Methods: In this observational and survey study, we used a three-group pre-test and post-tests design (N = 106 participants). We examined the effects of YouTube videos containing misinformation about COVID-19 vaccination on attitudes toward vaccination via surveys, employed screen recordings with integrated eye tracks to examine subsequent online information searches, and again surveyed participants to examine the effects of the individual searches on their attitudes. Results: Receiving misinformation via video tended to have negative effects, mostly on unvaccinated participants. After watching the video, they believed and trusted less in the effectiveness of the vaccines. Internet searches led to more positive attitudes toward vaccination, regardless of vaccination status or prior beliefs. The valences of search words entered and search duration were independent of the participants' prior attitudes. Misinforming content was rarely selected and perceived (read). In general, participants were more likely to perceive supportive and mostly neutral information about vaccination. Conclusion: Misinformation about COVID-19 vaccination on YouTube can have a negative impact on recipients. Unvaccinated citizens in particular are a vulnerable group to online misinformation; therefore, it is important to take action against misinformation on YouTube. One approach could be to motivate users to verify online content by doing their own information search on the internet, which led to positive results in the study.

Companion bots such as chatbots in cyberspace or robots in real space gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic as a means of comforting humans and reducing their loneliness. These bots can also help enhance the lives of elderly people. In this paper, we present how to design and implement a quick prototype of companion bots for elderly people. A companion bot named "Hello Steve"that is able to send emails, open YouTube to provide entertainment, and remember the times an elderly person must take medicine and remind them is designed and implemented as a quick prototype. In addition, the bot combines the features of a mobile robot and a chatbot. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the design through its very high accuracy when navigating mobile-robot-like tasks and responding to chatbot-like tasks via voice commands. © 2023 MYU K.K.

Purpose: Home-based workouts via fitness YouTube channels have become more popular during the pandemic era. However, few studies have examined the role of social media personae related to intention to exercise. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships between fitness YouTuber attributes: perceived physical attractiveness (PPA), perceived social attractiveness (PSA), perceived similarity (PS), parasocial relationships (PSRs), wishful identification (WI), physical outcome expectations (POEs), and continuous intention to work out with fitness YouTubers (CIWFY). Design/methodology/approach: This study considered fitness YouTube channel viewers as the unit of analysis. An online survey was conducted to empirically develop and test the research model using structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings: The SEM empirical findings revealed that the PSRs were significantly influenced by PSA, PPA, and PS. Also, WI was significantly affected by PPA and PS. Furthermore, POEs were significantly impacted by PPA and PSRs. POEs affected the CIWFY. Lastly, PSRs and POEs mediated the influence of PSA and PPA on the CIWFY. Originality/value: The psychological impacts of exercising to online fitness videos in the era of COVID-19, with its untact (no contact) social norms is timely. The study model demonstrated the fitness YouTube viewers' cognitive path from perceptions toward fitness YouTubers' attributes to behavioral intention. To be specific, the current study demonstrated how three attribution types (i.e. PPA, PSA, and PS) of fitness YouTubers affect viewers' PSRs and WI with fitness YouTubers, along with POEs and CIWFY. Along with health practitioners, fitness YouTubers who want to captivate viewers on their channels might need to consider self-attributes from their viewers' standpoint and should build psychological bonding with viewers. The COVID-19 pandemic has been going on for more than two years. Vaccination is believed to be one of the most efficient ways to achieve herd immunity and end pandemic. However, the contents about COVID-19 vaccines on social media have impacts on personal attitude towards vaccination. The present study aims to examine the current scenario and the echo chamber effect of COVID-19 vaccine videos on YouTube. A total of 1,646 videos with comments and replies were identified. An approach combining topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and social network analysis was employed to explore users' attitude towards COVID-19 vaccines and whether the echo chamber effect existed. The results indicate that, even if the misleading and anti-vaccination videos were removed by the platform, "anti-vaccination"contents still widely appear in the comments. Moreover, the community of "anti-vaccination"users was more homogeneous compared with that of "pro-vaccination"users. The findings of this study advanced theories of echo chamber effect and the network perspective to examine echo chambers. We propose that should be paid more attention ideology echo chamber, compared with exposure echo chamber. © 2022 IEEE.

The article is devoted to the manipulation techniques in the most popular videos about coronavirus posted on the YouTube platform. The aim of the study is to examine the use of manipulation techniques in videos produced by professional journalists and bloggers. The research methodology is based on content analysis. The sample includes videos with over 1 million views. The time period covers January 2020 (the spread of COVID-19) - February 2022 (the spread of the Omicron variant in Russia). The obvious interest of the audience in the topic of coronavirus is traced in March - May 2020, when the first cases of the disease were recorded in Russia, and then a lockdown was announced. The most popular topics are: the virus itself (what COVID-19 is, how the infection occurs, how it acts when it enters the body), vaccination (the danger of vaccination, possible consequences), the spread of COVID-19. Some authors resort to clickbait headlines and titles. Most of the videos (55%) are informative in nature. In 22% of the materials, the information source is not mentioned. The author of the article makes a conclusion about a fairly high frequency of manipulation techniques (such techniques are found in 44% of the videos). The most common manipulation techniques are an appeal to emotions, false linkage and alarming music.

Most individuals with access to the internet use social media platforms. These platforms represent an excellent opportunity to disseminate knowledge about management and treatment to the benefit of patients. The International Headache Society, The European Headache Federation, and The American Headache Society have electronic media committees to promote and highlight the organizations' expertise and disseminate research findings. A growing mistrust in science has made dealing with infodemics (i.e., sudden access to excessive unvetted information) an increasing part of clinical management. An increasing role of these committees will be to address this challenge. As an example, recent studies have demonstrated that the most popular online content on migraine management is not evidence-based and is disseminated by for-profit organizations. As healthcare professionals and members of professional headache organizations, we are obliged to prioritize knowledge dissemination. A progressive social media strategy is associated not only with increased online visibility and outreach, but also with a higher scientific interest. To identify gaps and barriers, future research should assess the range of available information on headache disorders in electronic media, characterize direct and indirect consequences on clinical management, and recognize best practice and strategies to improve our communication on internet-based communication platforms. In turn, these efforts will reduce the burden of headache disorders by facilitating improved education of both patients and providers.

Opportunities to participate in physical activities (PA) and fitness exercises in public and private facilities have been reduced or banned due to social distancing regulations during the height of the global pandemic. Though Korea has not experienced lockdown, several venues have been restricted to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Despite the limitations of PA engagement, people have found alternative activities by using online platforms to keep active and fit. Thus, this study focuses on analyzing fitness-related video titles from YouTube. By collecting data through text mining and conducting network analysis, it provides basic knowledge of the fitness trends from pre- and post-Covid-19. As a result, ‘exercise' was found to have the highest tendency and had strong connections to keywords that indicated specific methods of working out to become fit, but it also had connections to trendy keywords such as ‘hip-up' and ‘body-profile' which reflect the fitness culture in Korea.

YouTube is a highly popular social media platform capable of widespread information dissemination about COVID-19 vaccines. The aim of this mini scoping review was to summarize the content, quality, and methodology of studies that analyze YouTube videos related to COVID-19 vaccines. COVIDENCE was used to screen search results based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. PRISMA was used for data organization, and the final list of 9 articles used in the mini review were summarized and synthesized. YouTube videos included in each study, total number of cumulative views, results, and limitations were described. Overall, most of the videos were uploaded by television and internet news media and healthcare professionals. A variety of coding schemas were used in the studies. Videos with misleading, inaccurate, or anti-vaccination sentiment were more often uploaded by consumers. Officials seeking to encourage vaccination may utilize YouTube for widespread reach and to debunk misinformation and disinformation.

We ask if the move to play elite football (soccer) matches without spectators during the COVID-19 pandemic impacted online viewership. Using a new dataset from YouTube, we depart from the traditional ex ante approach to modelling football demand and investigate streaming preferences for known results in football. Our data is collected in real-time and considers English Premier League matches from 2019 to 2021 played both in front of crowds and behind closed doors. The results indicate increased viewership for matches played without crowds. The findings also allow a deeper understanding of direct demand for football as we identify motivators, including different pre-game and in-game characteristics as well as scheduling effects, that make fans curious to view content after the fact. The research adds to our understanding of the effects of the pandemic on fan viewer behaviour and speaks to broadcasting firms developing digital extension strategies.

The implementation of video as an educational resource has become widespread in recent years, driven by highly accessible platforms such as YouTube. The objective of our research is to study the use that is being given, during the COVID-19 pandemic, to audiovisual resources in higher education and to demonstrate the satisfaction with their use by teachers and students. Also, show the existence of variables that improve said satisfaction or that have a significant impact on a greater use of educational videos informally. For this, a descriptive-inferential study based on an online survey with a total sample of 684 responses from the University of Porto is provided. The results are discussed with the most recent literature on the subject. A regular use of the video by half of the sample and a significant use of informal videos by the students is concluded, obtaining, in both groups, a positive satisfaction with their use. The variables that influence satisfaction in the implementation of videos in the formal education stand out: technological competence, economic level and disciplinary area. In addition, those that condition the use of informal videos among students: gender, economic level and disciplinary area.

The first consequence of the digital transition in the music industry is to bring about a crisis in the physical media market which has not yet finished delivering all its implications. At the same time, live music has regained a central position as an axis of value creation, for artists as for other players in the ecosystem. And this specificity was partly due to the difficult dematerialization of the ‘hic et nunc' of the concert. With livestream, whose development has accelerated sharply with the Covid19 pandemic, live music is created and broadcast online, via ad hoc technical solutions, but above all via social content sharing platforms. Put into perspective by an analysis of the practices observed during the year 2020, the positioning of the Twitch livestream platform leads to an interest in the methods of content creation, the interactions that take place around it, as well as the economic models that emerge. © 2022 Communiquer. The COVID-19 pandemic has been the largest global crisis in recent decades. Apart from the countless deaths and health emergencies, the pandemic has disrupted several industries—including construction. For example, a significant number of construction projects have been interrupted, delayed, and even abandoned. In such emergencies, information gathering and dissemination are vital for effective crisis management. The role of social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, as information sources, in these contexts has received much attention. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate if YouTube can serve as a useful source of information for the construction industry in emergency situations—such as during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The assessment was undertaken by distilling the coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic as it relates to the construction industry from the content shared via YouTube by leveraging Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modelling. The investigation also compared the timeline with which relevant content was shared via YouTube and peer-reviewed research articles to make relative assessments. The findings suggest that YouTube offered significant and relevant coverage across six topics that include health and safety challenges, ongoing construction operation updates, workforce-related challenges, industry operations-related guidelines and advocacy, and others. Moreover, compared to the coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in the research literature, YouTube offered more comprehensive and timely coverage of the pandemic as it relates to the construction industry. Accordingly, industry stakeholders may leverage YouTube as a valuable and largely untapped resource to aid in combating similar emergency situations.

Digitalization challenges science communication in theoretical as well as methodological ways. It raises questions on how scientists, organizations, and institutions, as well as citizens and actors from other fields communicate about science and how science communication affects politics and the public. This thematic issue presents a collection of articles attempt-ing to tackle digitalization's challenge for science communication research. In this editorial, we provide a short overview of the included articles. Additionally, we outline some future avenues that research could follow to examine further the implications that digital channels could have for science communication. © 2023 by the author(s);licensee Cogitatio Press (Lisbon, Portugal).
